There is some rust to the metal spider. Best guess on wood - maple. Wheel is fairly smooth and feels lovely solid.

Wife stated her husband owned two model as so perhaps he purchased this for use with one of those. Wheel was made in the late 1910s to early 1920's. Wood wheel one continuous piece - steam bent and finger-jointed.

Changed material from brass to malleable iron, note specifying spider be black enameled instead of polished. The least expensive choice may not be one showing on front page.
